2015-2016 Coaching Staff:

At The New England Pride Hockey Organization, we are proud to be able to provide the best possible coaching staff for all of our teams, from the Developmental level to the Elite level. We are committed to provide a program for female hockey players that will provide each young lady with the tools necessary to achieve all of their goals as a hockey player. Whether they are looking to play competitive hockey, make their high school team, or even go on to play at the collegiate level, The Pride program is committed to each and every players success on and off the ice.


Jim Michals - Program Director/U19 Blue Head Coach, U14 Blue Asst. Coach, U14 Gold Asst. Coach, and U12 Blue Asst. Coach:

Jim Michals has been playing ice hockey since the age of 4. Playing high school hockey at Nobles & Greenough, Jim moved on to play college hockey for Babson College. After graduating from Babson, Jim began coaching youth hockey. Formerly the program coordinator for the Needham Youth Hockey Intramural program, Jim has run power skating and skills for the Boston Junior Bruins, Needham Youth Hockey, Charles River Girls Hockey, Eastern Girls Community Hockey, Belmont Youth Hockey, Wellesley Youth Hockey, and the Rhode Island Hitmen. Jim has also worked with a number of well-known coaches such as Dennis Gendron, Laura Stamm, and Pertti Hasanen. 

In 2010, Jim established the New England Pride Girls Program with his brother, Doug. Jim and Doug started the NE Pride program because they are passionate about developing the complete person and player. Jim continues to pursue the development of each player in the program!

Doug Michals - Director of Goaltending and Player Development /U16 Blue Head Coach, U14 Blue Head Coach, U12 Gold Asst. Coach, and Director of U8 Development :

Doug Michals, current Director of both Goaltending and Player Development, was an instrumental part of Trinity Pawlings squad in 1990. Attending the University of Connecticut from 1990-1994, Doug was named Most Valuable Player in 1993. After graduating from UConn in 1994, Doug went on to play for the Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL). Following his release from the ECHL, Doug, along with Darren Hersh, founded the Goalie Academy. From 2004-2006, Doug served as Director of Goaltending for the Hershey Junior Bears in Hershey, PA. In 2006, Doug made the decision to move back to partner with his brother Jim, and T.E.A.M.S. Training. 

Currently, Doug is the Vice President, Director, and Instructor of T.E.A.M.S Training Camps, Stride Right Power Skating and the Co-Founder of The Goalie Academy of Boston. T.E.A.M.S Training is an innovative, high-energy instructional hockey company that focuses on creating power skating, skills and goalie camps for hockey programs and goalies. He is also the Head Goalie Coach for the Nobles & Greenough Varsity Boy’s Hockey team.

In 2010 Doug and Jim decided to start the New England Pride which continues to grow. Jim and Doug have dedicated themselves to the development of the players who come to the Pride in helping them reach their goals not only in hockey but in life.

Kelsey Johnson: Off Ice Head Coach, U16 Blue Associate Head  Coach, U14 Blue Asst. Coach:

Kelsey has been playing hockey since the age of 7. Kelsey played her youth hockey at Assabet Valley, and her High School years at  Governor’s Academy, graduating in 2005. During her time at Governor’s, Kelsey secured 12 Varsity Letters in Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, and Lacrosse. Kelsey was named Captain of the Ice Hockey team during both her Junior and Senior years. She was also named Captain of the Field Hockey and Lacrosse teams her Senior Year. In her Senior year, Kelsey was named MVP of both the Ice Hockey and Lacrosse teams. She was also named to the ISL All-League Team Senior and Junior Year. 

Kelsey went on to the University of New Hampshire to play Division 1 College Lacrosse, before transferring to St. Anslem’s College to play Division II Ice Hockey and Lacrosse. Named 2008 ECAC Player of the Year, she was also named St. Anslem’s Club Athlete of the Year. During her Junior and Senior seasons, Johnson was named MVP for the Women’s Hockey team. In her Senior year, Kelsey was also a finalist for the 2008 Laura Hurd National Hockey Player of the Year. Captain her senior year, Kelsey led her team to the ECAC Championship, along with the League Championship!

After graduating from St. Anselm’s, Kelsey became the Assistant Coach of the 2009 ISL Chamionship Governor’s Academy Varsity Field Hockey Team. Kelsey has gone on to become the Skills and Off-Ice Coach for Hill Hockey, she is a Personal Trainer at the Great Harbor Yacht Club, and a Conditioning Instructor for Peak Performance! Kelsey joins the NE Pride Hockey Program as an Assistant Coach for the he U19 Minor team and Co-Director of our Off Ice/Strength & Conditioning program.

Kristen Aiello - U14 Gold Head Coach:

Kristen played her High School hockey at Thayer Academy. Sophomore year, Kristen earned the Maureen E. Bucken Prize, which recognizes those qualities of good humor, contribution to athletics, and sound character. Kristen played 4 years of Varsity Ice Hockey, captaining the  team both her Junior and Senior years. Kristen also played 4 years of Lacrosse, 2 years of Soccer, and 1 year of Field Hockey. Kristen went on to play Division 3 College Hockey for Salve Regina University. During her time at Salve, she served as a mentor to freshman players on the team. Kristen skated in over 100 games at Salve including, the school’s first ever victory over Manhattanville College (ranked No.1) in the semi-finals of the ECAC tournament to continue to the championship game.

DJ Walsh - U12 Gold Head Coach

Growing up playing for Needham Youth Hockey and the Boston Junior Bruins, DJ excelled on the ice. Leading his team to the 2010 USA Hockey National Tournament, DJ went on to play his High School career at Needham High School. In both 2011 and 20012, DJ was named to Massachusetts All-State Team and represented Massachusetts at the Bauer National Invitation Tournament in 2011 in Minnesota. Upon graduating from Needham High, DJ went on to play his Post-Grad year at Bridgton Academy in Maine. Committing to the University of Southern Maine, DJ joined the Huskies in the Fall of 2013. Suffering a career ending injury, DJ returned home to recover. Joining Michals Hockey in the summer of 2014, DJ has gone on to coach at our camps and clinics. In addition to coaching on the ice, DJ trains a wide range of athletes on our Synthetic Ice Treadmill and Mini Rink.
